It's all politics:)

I had made a post earlier about a poll I had taken about presidential candidates...the results shocked me and gave me a tie score between Rudy and Barack!! I chose importance of issues and came up with some similar, although possibly vague answers, that these two gentleman had in common. I got some flak...I just wanted to say I understand these men are different and I don't take my decisions lightly. I have taken down this post because it is not completely reflective of my overall decision. But, the quiz was all in fun. I wanted to post it to get people interested, I have some friends and a stubborn sister who at this time do not even vote at all!
Some of the most important issues I see in the upcoming voting year are:
The War in Iraq
Energy Efficiency
Immigration
Universal Health Care
and
Stem Cell Research

I think Rudy and Barack each have their own forward thinking ideas, however, it is the follow through that is the most important!

Ah, now here could be a really interesting, productive discussion!

The war in Iraq (more importantly, the over-arching war on terror):

Obama is a cut-and-run Democrat. According to his website, he wants to begin withdrawing troops immediately, while at the same time, convening a new constitutional convention in Iraq - in other words, he wants to undo everything that has already been accomplished, and to sabotage a functional, stable Iraq government.

Energy Efficiency:

Obama bases his entire energy plan on the utterly unproven human-caused global-warming theory. He talks about a cap-and-trade plan, forced emissions reductions and efficiency improvements, but not one bit about how demand will meet his arbitrary milestones. He talks about reducing reliance upon foreign oil, but spends not one word discussing the one, single, short-term measure to accomplish that goal: using our own oil (ANWR, etc.). He talks about spending all kinds of federal money on research, but doesn't say where that money will come from. Classic liberal energy plan.

Immigration:

Other than his amnesty provision, I have no problem with Obama's stance on immigration: increased border security, legal employment verification, increase annual quota of legal immigration, give amnesty to otherwise law-abiding but currently illegal immigrants.

Universal Health Care:

Obama supports a national health plan. "National Health Plan" = socialism. The rest of the civilized world (see Canada, UK, France, etc.) who have tried this horrible, horrible idea are trying to move away from it. Support this idea if you like the thought of having to pull your own teeth (as the British now resort to doing, due to the shortage of dental health care).

Obama believes in a "right" to health coverage. I still fail to see this "right" in the Constitution.

Stem Cell Research:

First, let's make sure we're talking about the same thing. Everyone (as far as I know) supports ethical research into adult stem cells. The debate concerns embryonic stem cell research.

Obama supports federal funding of embryonic stem cell research. Enough said. (No, really: you don't want to get me started on this subject.)

Personally, I don't favor either Obama or Juliani. Right now, I'm in Fred Thompson's camp.

Yes, Fred is probably second on my list! There are some issues that I am up against with Rudy, but I am not sure if those issues are as important as others!
